Three motivated and exciting drummers, "L.A.", Sharyn Brown and Ife George make up this phenomenal female percussion ensemble, "Daughters of the Drum." The group also features a dancer/sangban player Take Phillip, who interprets the rhythms through powerful and rousing movement.
Their goal through their music is to make you experience how the drums blend multi-cultural rhythmic influences and how women, once prohibited from playing drums, now share a universality of sisterhood. They liberate our humanity - lighting the way through their language - THE DRUM !!!

Sharyn Brown : "Live With Passion."
|
| |
"We drum for change, we drum for justice, we drum to inspire others."
- excerpt from 'Our New Beginning' by L.A. & Simply Skins
Sharyn Brown plays the tumbador for Simply Skins: "Daughters of the Drum." She began her studies in 1997 with master drummer, L.A., after hearing the phenomenal percussionist on djembe for the first time at a Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Buddhist meeting.
What started out as a hobby soon became a challenging, but ever passionate, journey of self- discovery and renewal on drums. Sharyn has been heavily influenced by the eclectic style of her mentor, L.A., and the traditional recordings of the late Michael Babalunde Olatunji. Her rhythms celebrate the power and urgency of life, love, and legacy. Sharyn has said that each concert is a precious opportunity for heart-to-heart dialogue --- the essence of drum talk.
Sharyn joined Simply Skins in 1998. The UN State of the World Summit in 2000 and the Rites of Ancestral Return: Commemorating the Colonial African Heritage in 2003 have become her golden memories in a growing list of performances by the popular percussion ensemble.

A. and was asked to join the group in 2002. She credits her accomplishment of drumming to her strong determination along with the direction of her dedicated and extraordinarily talented instructor, L. A.
